About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Munising, Michigan, the Barge Inn offers a distinctly inviting bar experience that feels like a well-kept secret among locals and travelers alike. Located at 206 W Superior St, this establishment stands out for its welcoming atmosphere and an impressive selection of drinks that cater to a variety of tastes and moods.

Step inside, and you’ll immediately sense the laidback, friendly vibe that defines the Barge Inn. It’s the kind of place where both local regulars and curious visitors mix seamlessly, creating an authentic community feel. Whether you’re settling in for a quick cocktail or spending the afternoon, this bar manages to feel refreshingly unpretentious, perfectly balancing comfort with character. One customer, Doug Duensing, praised the “very friendly” bartender and the “great selection of liquor and beer,” a sentiment echoed by many who appreciate the personalized, attentive service here.

What truly elevates the experience at the Barge Inn is its thoughtfully curated drink menu. From the zesty kick of their signature Bloody Marys and the playful intrigue of Mystery Shots to the rich warmth of their Four Roses Bourbon collection, there’s something to intrigue every palate. Cocktail lovers will find the Mojitos crisp and refreshing, while those seeking something smooth might opt for a Kahlua Shot or savor one of the many bourbons available. Beer enthusiasts are well-catered for too, with local and classic options like Blatz Beer and unique offerings such as cold brew that add to the menu’s versatility.

Food at the Barge Inn involves a fun, casual twist — while the bar itself doesn’t serve meals directly, it partners with popular nearby food trucks to deliver satisfying bites. This arrangement means you can order favorites like the juicy French Dip Sandwich, crispy Mozzarella Sticks, or a hearty Chili Cheese Dog and enjoy them in the relaxed setting of the bar or out on their sprawling outdoor patio. Regulars rave about the convenience and quality of this combo, making it an ideal stop for anyone passing through. As Rhonda Bush put it, the drinks are fantastic, and the food “served from next door was even better.”

One of the Barge Inn’s most charming touches is its sense of community and subtle nods to loyal patrons. For instance, you can purchase a pint glass adorned with the Barge Inn sticker for just $10 — and it comes with a free beer fill, a smart little gesture that invites guests to feel part of the bar’s story. The bar’s openness to families, welcoming underage visitors on a designated side, adds to its approachable and inclusive nature, setting it apart from many traditional bars.

Whether you’re seeking a cold brew to refresh on a summer afternoon, a cozy corner to unwind with a bourbon, or simply a lively spot to meet friendly people and soak in the local vibe, the Barge Inn delivers all of this with a genuine heart. Carol, a visiting traveler, summed it up perfectly: after searching around Munising, this was the “best place in town” to eat and drink — a true testament to its repeat-worthy appeal.

In short, the Barge Inn is more than just a bar; it’s a destination where good drinks, great company, and a welcoming atmosphere combine to create a memorable experience that keeps visitors coming back. If you find yourself in Munising, stopping by this gem is absolutely worth your time.

Me and my hubby stopped here on a Thursday afternoon. The bartender was amazing. Their drinks were good and the food that was served from next-door was even better. Definitely a place to go if you are passing through.

Dropped in here couple of summers ago, still remember the great bar vibe and service here. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to visit. No food served by the bar but there are food trucks close by and they welcome underage kids on the family side. I saw pint glasses with Barge Inn stickers and asked about them. Bartender lady told me they're $10, buy one and they'll fill it with a free beer. Sold! One of these days I'll be back in the UP (Lake Superior captured me with her charms) and I'll be "barging" in again here too.
